Week in Review – 10/14 – 10/18

This week’s ‘Week in Review’ post was written to Junior Renata Del Vecchio. Besides making interesting projects in the Engineering shop, Renata can also be found on the volleyball court as a member of the Varsity Girls Volleyball team at MHS.

Here is Renata explaining the project in a short video:

Hello! My name is Renata Del Vecchio, a junior in the robotics shop. This past week I’ve been working on my project with Nico Polcaro, an arcade game based on the dinosaur game in google chrome which uses LED-lit etched acrylic pieces for the player and obstacles. For the entire beginning of the year we’ve continued our progress from the previous year. More process updates can be found on my website.

Here’s a quick concept sketch of the finished product:

This week was taken up by completing the final aspects of the circuit board, which I’ve been working at for the past few weeks. There have been many setbacks, and I had to redesign the circuit board from scratch halfway through. However, I am happy to say that we finally have a circuit board which can be downloaded to from the computer, and doesn’t destroy the cables it touches– I’m sure Mr. Christy is very thankful for that.

Here’s the breadboard with all the parts on it:

Here is the circuit board assembled this week:

Most of the components are offboard, which means the circuit board looks somewhat sparse. This week has been absolutely monumental, since now we can focus on getting all these components into the box, and getting a finished product.

I additionally worked on the code, adding more jingles which play on a speaker – when the player gets a point, loses, or starts up the game.
