26-27 Week of 10/19-10/23

Seniors enjoyed C3 day on Wednesday of the week. This day allows seniors to visit colleges and learn about careers in preparation for leaving high school. In addition, we met with a drone company about how to implement drone technology and certification into the curriculum. As always, our students were working diligently on a variety of projects.

This week our Student Spotlight highlights Junior Michael Tirella ’28

Michael’s latest blog post:

I began work this week by modifying how the replacement battery is shaped. I bent it in half and held it closed with glue and the contraption of tools seen in the picture.

This is what it will roughly look like under the handle. The button in between the battery and fan.

This is what the front half of the handle looks like. The blue shape is the dimensions of the batteries and is standing in for it. The back half is almost identical, just without a hole for the button. It should perfectly slot into the yellow fan top if I did my measurements correctly. I sent both halves to the 3D printer.

Metal Fab Request

Metal Fab asked our shop to make a simple shape out of a metal they gave us. This is the paper they gave. It includes dimensions for a base with four holes, but does not include how far away they should be from the edge, center or anything. Because of this, I went to Metal Fab to ask how far it should be.

This was the end product. It cut like the sketch I made, and it looks like the desired shape. I claimed this job since I was going to soon use the waterjet anyway, to cut shapes out of a broken counter I brought in, as per request of my mom. It was good to learn how to use it before I did so.
