Last week we discussed the function of the Derive tool. That tool allows you to bring in certain elements of an existing design into a new or existing file. Changes you make to the derive in the new file do not affect the original template file, however, changes made to the original template file will travel upstream to the Derived element. It can be very handy as I explained last week.

Another great use for the Derive tool is the idea of Global Parameters. Imagine having a file with all the typical parameters you may often use such as diameters for different heated inserts, screw hole sizes for self tapping 3D parts, etc. Well, with the Derive tool you can do exactly that. The basic principle is simple. Set up a file designated to host your Global Parameters and setup the parameters you want. Then, when you need to use them, Derive the file, and it’s parameters into your new project. Check out the video below to learn more. Let me know if this is something that you find interesting.

Well, that’s all for this week. Thank you for not reading this.
