We had a short week with the MLK holiday and Professional Development for teachers. This gave our students only 3 days to get work done in the shop, but they were still able to take advantage of their time and continue their projects.
Senior Kim Dao was working on the Eco League Club’s poster:
Wednesday
Both Monday and Tuesday, we didn’t have school. This made the week very short. Once I returned back to shop, I checked on the flower vase that I started to glue. I cut another ring for the top plate to easily glow each rib to each plate. I was able to finish gluing the vase together and it was able to hold itself up pretty well. I am going t make the flowers for the vase in my own time. I also helped with mapping out the map for Eco league again. the new maps arrived. I worked with Bella and Jaspreet. We put the map in order like a puzzle and found out that they cannot be connected by putting each of them next to each other. I also started making the card that is going to be paired with the vase.

Thursday
I finished up making the card and checking if the vase was fully dried. I started making some cities for the map and the spots that were marked by Jaspreet and Bella. There were different cities that needed to be marked for the main map such as Pittsfield and Albany that was on the first map.

Junior Asiya Khalif was working on a special project for the Medford School Committee:
How is it going, beguilers?!
This right here is going to be a short blog which features Friday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this/last week. This week was obviously cut off because of MLK day, and then a professional development day which basically means no students in the building. Due to those circumstances, my first day of the week was Wednesday. but since there is no review of how the Friday before went, I’ve added that as a little treat.
Stuck between a rock (laser cutter) and a hard place (waterjet)
So, on Friday, I was caught between the crossfires of the laser cutter and the waterjet. Fire versus water if you will. I needed to make another waterjet piece, same as before, for the Metal Fab teacher/ Metal Fab teacher’s friend. This required no designing since it is a copy and paste of the other 5 or 6 pieces I had made for him. I set up the waterjet, called over Mr. Christy, and we cut the final piece, ending an ongoing chain of the same piece I had been replicating. However, I had another thing coming if I thought the work was done…

When we found that the key to making the signs for the school committee was to just up the resolution, we tried to redo as much as possible. The material was taped on, due to its flimsy nature and Lila got to cutting that as I was cutting on the waterjet. However, the laser cutter was taking more than 20 minutes per sign. We tried to redo as much as possible within the time limit and in one day I managed to finish off those school committee and metal fab projects. Of course, the school committee could request more signs, maybe redo the ones we did not have time to, but as of now both of those things were over.

Using the waterjet again?
Well, actually not all the way over with the waterjet. Mr. L recently came over to me and asked if I could cut out another piece, separate thing, for Metal Fab. This was a ring looking thing which I had a drawing of given to me. I recreated it on Fusion 360 so I could then save it as a DXF and cut it out on the waterjet. Preparing the file was simple and was done on Friday.

Then, on Thursday I asked to use the waterjet so I could cut the file out of 1/4 aluminum. Most likely I’m using the waterjet Friday.
The Wednesday Wars…
As if we were going backwards in time, I should talk about Wednesday where organizing led to a near hypothermic experience. Me, Lila, Sydney, and Quinn decided to organize the materials for the laser cutter. Turns out, it was way messier than I had thought. It took about two hours to get rid of all of the stuff that we did not need.

Then the most horrible part came. We had to go outside. Now, I’m not one to complain about the outdoors, but it was freezing as we took out the trash with all those unneeded materials and we had a hold up consisting of the trash bag breaking. Quinn had to run to and from the shop to grab extra trash bags because of the pointiness of the materials. We finally then got it in the big trash can and left feeling successful and very very cold.
I’d call that a pretty successful short week if I don’t say so myself
Well,
Keep Beguiling…

Sophomore Daniel Alberty de Andrade was working on his LED Light Box project:
On Wednesday, I successfully added a button to my NeoPixel Stick. This is monumental because its not just controlling the current, it tells the NeoPixel to turn on and off. I’d like to shout out Dom for helping me, I couldn’t have done it without you, thank you.
Today I focused a bit more on coding, and everything was going swell. But alas, I unfortunately power surged my cable and couldn’t get much done. But that just means I have to lock in on Friday.

Looks like it is going to be another short week with the weekend storm. Happy shoveling!
