This week in our vocational engineering program, students advanced a range of hands-on fabrication and electronics projects. From laser-cut acrylic designs and collaborative mapping work to iterative enclosure prototyping and circuit experimentation, the class demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, precision, and teamwork. Below is a look at some of the standout accomplishments from the week.
Jaspreet This week, Jaspreet completed several hands-on projects showcasing her growing proficiency with digital fabrication tools. She designed custom acrylic nameplates for her home recycling and trash bins, moving seamlessly from CAD to Inkscape to the laser cutter to produce polished engraved pieces.
She also revisited her poster project, reprinting and refinishing her 3D-printed stars after an accidental break. With sanding, fresh black spray paint, and a flat finish, the components are now ready for final assembly.
A highlight of the week was her collaboration with classmates Kim and Bella on a map project for Mr. Christy. After measuring window locations in the main office, they created colorful and personalized signs for Worcester, Medford, the Quabbin Reservoir, and Massachusetts. New markers arrived Thursday, allowing them to complete the detailing.

Alex Alex’s week centered on refining the design and assembly of his Media Tech box. Beginning with screen installation into a 3D-printed connector, he laser-cut a custom acrylic screen cover—fixing measurement issues along the way. Midweek, he shifted to prototyping improvements to his piano electronics project, experimenting with output waveforms and exploring a full-bridge circuit to enhance speaker volume.
By Thursday, Alex had printed a new box shell and began final assembly. A surprise clearance issue with the DB25 ribbon cable prompted a redesign, resulting in a cleaner and more functional lid. The enclosure is now nearly complete and will be finalized with his teammate Jacob.
