24-25 Week of 1/13-1/17

Another solid week of work in the shop. We love seeing so many different projects happening at the same time. Additionally, we’ve asked for the assistance of the Film & TV shop to create a video of our shop. They are taking footage each day and will be putting together a short film showcasing the great work our students are doing each day. Stay tuned for that!

To the work. Senior Milo Austin was working on two separate projects during the week:

This week I was getting back into my skate board chair after finishing the Magic the gathering gift for my brother in law. I Started to revisit the design by looking at the frame and how I could better fit it to being comfortable. I laser cut the design that I had previously made and this helped me see some changes that I wanted to make. The changes I decided to make were to change the angle at which the feet hit the ground so that the chair would be more stable. I also shortened the seat length as it was way longer than I needed. Some changes I might make going forward are to adjust the angle of the back but I am not sure yet. The chair is supposed to be low to the ground so you can stretch your legs out onto the floor so I want to make it so it can feel almost like lying down but you are still sitting.

Junior Bella Hallihan continued work on the large LED Word Clock:

This week, I went back to the word clock project since I finished the gift for my mom and was still waiting for the panel mount for my layered art box project to be delivered. This week, Kim and I got all of the acrylic letters, all the clear acrylic, and all the diffusers cut out. On Wednesday, we didn’t do any laser cutting because it was an early release, meaning we didn’t have as much time. Instead, we decided to figure out just how much wooden pieces we’d have to cut out and how many slabs of wood we would need. When we added everything up, we found out we would need 4 slabs of 1/8″ wood and 8 slabs of 1/4″ wood. The panel mount that I ordered for my other project came early on Wednesday, so next week I’m going to finish my layered art box.

Sophomore Quinn Dufour continues work on the LED Light Box;

This week I added the light sensor, USB port, and attachments holding my acrylic in place to my box. These are the last three pieces of my lightbox I needed to add to Fusion and next week I will probably start making my box.

After making and attaching these pieces I started to design my acrylic. I will continue this and make sure it is ready to cut on Friday. For now I have added an image and made the base in Inkscape.
