24-25 Week of 9/9 – 9/13

Our first full week of school, and there was a lot happening in the shop. As usual, we will post a few excerpts from the webpages of our students to showcase their work.

Let’s begin with senior Gabe Araujo who continues his Micro Mouse project. A Micro Mouse is an autonomous robot that is able to traverse a physical maze. Gabe writes about his progress this week saying:

This week I finished soldering the new micromouse PCB I made in the previous. In this new PCB I only changed the button that was not connected correctly to power. I did this because I wanted to add a toggle switch to make the micromouse stop, and run, I was also going to add a place to put a battery somewhere in the micromouse but I ended up forgetting, and only focused on the switch.

This week I also worked on getting the toggle switch to work on the micromouse, so I added to the code a part that can make the micromouse stop, and run.

You can see photos and some of his posted code at his website here.

Junior Lincoln Bell was finalizing details on his Terminal Box. He writes on his website:

This week I worked on the Designs for the terminal boxes in CAD, as well and created the PCBs in Fusion. I also fixed some minor errors with the electronics and made some small hardware changes.

Check out photos and circuit diagrams on his website here.

Additionally, this week the Sophomores spent time learning drafting skills. They spent time with some T Squares and Triangles drawing complicated shapes with pencil and paper. After honing their hand skills in the classroom, the group spent Friday in the machine shop getting comfortable operating the incredible array of mills, lathes, and CNC machines we have on offer. Some photos of the sophomores during the week are below.
