23-24 Week of 3/4 – 3/8

Some great work happening in the shop this week. Let’s start with an update from Junior Santanna Russell.

this week I finally put the arm together and started tackling one of its larger problems, the base. at the beginning of this week I had made a list of things to do before I work on the gripper. a majority of them are just printing joints and pegs, but quickly one made it to the top of the list; redesigning the base. the current base doesn’t hold the arm up in any position and has zero space for electronics. heading into the redesign; the ruggedness and space are the most important. so far the redesign is giving me trouble as it’s hard to keep functionality and aesthetics in one hand. I feel like I’ve made good progress this week but it’s hard to tell

Senior Isaiah Bell continues to work on his drone project. This week he created CAD files for custom prop guards.

This week I wanted to work on my prop guard so my propellers can be protected while flying. This process was oddly challenging as my cardboard models were coming up a bit faulty. I’m having trouble updating my parameters and the mounts so everything can adjust accordingly as I prepare to 3D print these models. Hopefully, these parts do not affect the drone’s ability to fly as I am adding more weight (technically).

The Sophomores have moved on to the SUMObot competition. We will post photos of the LED Lightboxes once we have them.

All for this week, thanks for reading.
