We hope you had a restful break and were able to spend time with friends and family. Before the break, a lot of great work was happening in the shop.
Last week we finally were able to use our new lathe, which has been waiting for power for some time. It is a Southbend lathe and is completely mechanical. A great tool for learning the proper methods of turning parts. Luckily, there was a need to put it to use straight away, with Junior Ben Wirz designing a part for the Robotics Team’s underwater rover. After turning the 4″ part on the lathe, it then went to the milling machine for some drill holes and finally those holes were tapped. See photos below.
